Rotaract clubs help young men and women develop their potential and bring a valuable contribution to society.
Rotaract is a Rotary-sponsored program for young men and women aged 18 to 30. Its aim is to help young generations develop their leadership, organizational and communication skills, promote friendship and international understanding and improve their communities.
Rotaract Clubs are either community based or university based. Within these clubs, the members learn to address their communities’ needs at grassroots level and make a valuable contribution to society through a framework of friendship and service. At the same time, the members learn to develop their own skills as professionals and develop their understanding of the world around them by collaborating with clubs all over the world.
In each club, four committees are in charge of coordinating the activities:
- The Community Service Committee for service to the community by assessing its social needs, helping its disadvantaged members & increasing awareness about vital issues such as health, drugs, etc…
- The Vocational Service Committee develops the professional and communication skills of the club members as well as the community members. This could be done by hosting speakers or organizing workshops.
- The International Service Committee initiates projects that promote the country and collaborate with clubs abroad to create better friendship within the international community.
- The Club Service Committee is responsible for retaining currents members and attracting new ones by organizing various fun activities for the club members such as camping, dinners, karaoke night, etc…These activities help the members to interact together & motivates them to keep going and always do their best!
In Lebanon, there are currently 18 Rotaract clubs covering the whole territory from Zgharta to Saida. The Rotaract club of LAU Byblos is the only university based club in Lebanon.
One of their most high profile activities lately is an anti-smoking campaign and the very successful Ain’t no Smoking Tonight event in Gemmayze organized jointly by the Rotaract Clubs of Sahel Metn, Beirut and Beirut Metropolitan.
Lebanon is part of the Rotaract/Rotary District 2450 which also includes Egypt, Armenia, Jordan, Cyprus, Bahrain, Georgia, the United Arab Emirates and Sudan.
